Chamblee/Doravile
Chamblee and Doravile are towns built in the 1950's. Homes prices in these towns range from $75,000 to $200,000 and are mainly traditional with three bedroom ranch styles the most popular.
Taxes for homeowners are kept low in Doravile because General Motors has a large plant here. Chamblee is noted for its antique shops. Both neighborhoods are close to shopping, hospital care, and neighborhood parks.
Decatur
Decatur is only four small miles and has 17,805 residents. The city center has an historic old courthouse with a charming town square surrounding it.
Most of the Decatur neighborhoods were created in the 1920's and 1930's and contain traditional brick bungalows with gable roofs. Prices range from $100,00-$200,000. In addition there are some new home developments under way as well as condominiums. Prices for these start at $100,000.
Decatur runs its own school system and is becoming well-known throughout the state for its quality atmosphere. It consists of seven elementary, one middle and one high school.
Because of MARTA rapid rail system, Decatur is only a short ride to the city. The Downtown Development Authority in Decatur is maintaining the city's home-town atmosphere while engaging in new economic development.
Druid Hills
Druid Hills is a beautiful historic community located next to Emory University. Druid Hills Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted a famed landscape architect/town planner and designer of New York's Central Park. The lovely neighborhoods of Druid Hills were the setting for the movie "Driving Miss Daisy".
The homes styles in Druid Hills are mainly two-story traditional with Tudors and Georgian the most popular. Prices of homes are between $200,000 and $500,000. Some townhomes are available for $150,000 and up.
Dunwoody
Dubwoody is a charming and affluent area with a population of about 28,000. It is conveniently located within an easy driving distance to the Perimeter Mall. Its infrastructure consists of multi-lane roads, shopping centers, huge office buildings, high-rise hotels and large business complexes. However, the community is still predominantly composed of elegant subdivisions.
The housing style is mainly large two-story Williamsburg styled, traditional brick homes. Very few ranches or contemporaries are available. The average home prices are between $175,000-$500,000. However, there are estates that exceed $1 million. In addition many styles of condominiums are available.
Recreational activities are very popular with residents and are led by tennis and golf. There are numerous public and private tennis facilities as well as several athletic clubs.
Stone Mountain
Stone Mountain is a quaint town located 16 miles east of Atlanta and has about 8,000 residents. It contains a granite mountain that is about 294 million years old. It is the largest expanse of exposed granite in the world. Thousands of visitors each year come to see the mountain along with the carving on the side of the mountain depicting, Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson.
Stone Mountain as casual, stable neighborhoods. The prices can vary from $75,000 to $1,000,000. However, there is a good selection from $100,000-$200,000. Architecture styles also vary from traditional to contemporary.
The village of Stone Mountain is a draw for tourists and residents because of the quaint shops in an old fashion setting.
Toco Hills
Toco Hills is an established, peaceful community located near I-85 and I-286 and is close to downtown, hospitals, shopping, and cultural events. It was built in the late 1940's and the early 1950's.
You can find well-maintained three bedroom brick ranch homes on large wooded lots. Housing prices range from $100,000 to $175,000.
Tucker
Tucker is a community of 35,000 residents and represents the typical hometown USA. It has an old main street with railroad tracks that go right through the middle of town. Tucker is also very conveniently located near health care and shopping facilities.
In Tucker's peaceful, established neighborhoods homes do not remain on the market very long. Prices range from $90,000 to $250,000. The styles consist of traditional and spilt level with very few new homes.
Schools in Tucker are excellent and over 80% of high school students attend a post-secondary program.
